Matthew Elliott

Hello everyone! My name is Matthew Elliott and I am excited to serve as your Perry Youth Recreation Director!

I have a passion for coaching and teaching kids to be not only better athletes but also better people. I think this department has an opportunity to do both by joining in with other great existing organizations within Perry and the school systems to create one cohesive development system for the betterment of the kids of all 3 communities that make up the Perry community.

There is also a thought out there that rec sports are dying across the country because of video games and phones and that kids don’t want to go outside anymore. I contend that the reason is more so that we as parents and leaders (not specifically in Perry, but nationwide) make the sports so much about the ultra competitive, being so serious to win at all costs, that sports just aren’t fun to the kids anymore. Like I said earlier, I want the kids to want to win, but I want them to respect and enjoy it as well. If they love it, they will want to work and get better, so let’s start there!
